apple butter measurements
In my original post about my Apple Butter, I left off the measurements. Here they are:
16 apples [i use a variety...granny smith, jonagold, honeycrisp, whatever is at the farmer's market]
1 ½ c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 T. cinnamon
½ t. cloves
½ t. nutmeg
½ t. kosher salt
Core and dice the apples. Mix with the sugar and spices. Place in a crock pot on HIGH for 2 hours. Turn the heat down to LOW and continue to cook for 6 more hours, stirring occasionally. Use an emulsion blender to blend to the desired consistancy. Seal in jars.

Several people have asked for a tutorial on the stickers. I promise I will get it together one day and do one!

Thank you:) Love your blog, by the way!
I would LOVE a tutorial on the stickers! :)
Thank you for this recipe! I made this recipe last year (2012) for my mom who is an apple butter fanatic. I have since created a monster! She REFUSES to eat any apple butter but this recipe. So once again, this is what I am making right this moment to be canned once I roll out of bed tomorrow morning.
I live in Oregon so my varieties included are Gravenstein, Honey Crisp, Jonagold, Gala, and 1 single red delicious. Even though some varieties are much larger than the others, the Gala were very small this year so it balanced quite well. Anyway, back on track.
The only thing I changed was at the end of the process, I strained out the majority of the juices and blended the apples in a blender (we like a nice thick consistency) and made apple syrup out of the leftover juices that I strained off! Just an idea for anyone else if their apple varieties end up more like apple sauce consistency!
