For the past several years, Jody and I have decided to forgo all the adult New Years Eve parties and to spend the evening with our children. [Warning: This post revolves around food because that is how we seem to roll around here.]
We enjoyed a nice, semi-quiet dinner at home. This year we had two special guests...
Debbie gave cousin Leo his New Years Eve bottle and then we all enjoyed a steak, baked potato and asparagus dinner...
Complete with Sparkling Cold Duck for the kids!
For dessert, something special that I have never done before...
Bananas Foster! I used this recipe from a Brennan's cookbook I picked up in New Orleans several years ago. A little butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, bananas and banana liqueur set on fire with some rum served over vanilla ice cream. The kids thought it was super cool that we had a fire. It was delicious & delightful. It was so good that I made seconds!
New Years Day brought the final Alabama game of the season and a traditional NYD meal. We had some snacks for the first half of the game...
Wings 3 ways, Hot and Cheesey Black Eye Pea Dip from this Junior League's second cookbook & chicken wing dip.
During half time we dug into our traditional New Years Day meal. We ate...
black eye peas and
greens for luck and wealth.
We also had the most delicious meatloaf to date...
We used our version of this recipe. Uncle Topher then smoked it in a cast iron dutch oven on the Big Green Egg. It was hands down the best meatloaf I have ever eaten!
No meatloaf, mash potato, carrot, greens and black-eyed pea meal would be complete without some of this...
...cornbread.
For dessert, brownies and this new fav around these parts...
Homemade Caramels.
I am trying to support our other state's team. My nephew Leo showed up New Years Day wearing this...
I just had to laugh!
